"The other Places of the Political in the Americas"
November 18th 2021, 16.30 à 18.30 (Paris time) / 09:30 AM (Austin, Texas)
Séminaire les autres lieux du politique, CECILLE, Université de Lille.
Join a hybrid talk with Jason Borge, Professor of Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies at UT Austin. This event is hosted by the University of Lille and Texas Global, and is part of the annual program of the CECILLE research unit's "Americas" annual seminar series.
This year the series looks at "The other Places of the Political in the Americas", and explores those marginal places where the political is produced and socialized – on the sidelines of institutional processes. The series is coordinated by three U.Lille faculty members: Hélène Quanquin, Aurore Clavier, and Véronique Hébrard.
Participants in this session can look forward to the following presentation:
"Latinities (and Americanities) of Jazz.”, Jason Borge (UT Austin)
Pr. Borge’s research interrogates the intra-hemispheric dimensions of Latin American cultural production, and specifically the critical reception and imaginative re-appropriation of US mass culture of the early and middle 20th century. He is the author, among other publications, of Tropical Riffs: Latin America and the Politics of Jazz (Duke University Press, 2018).
This talk is sponsored by Texas Global, the University of Lille, and the Institut des Amériques, in an effort to support global learning spaces and scholarly conversations on research of the Americas.
